savings ratio

savings ratio
The ratio of savings by individuals and households to disposable income. Variations in the savings ratio reflect the changing preferences of individuals between present and future consumption. Countries, such as Japan, with very high savings ratios have tended to experience faster growth in GDP than countries, such as the USA, with low savings ratios.
